PORTLAND, ME—The wintry weather didn’t cool the pace of real estate sales in Maine in the lead up to and after Christmas. The number of single family homes sold was up by over 9% in December, according to figures released by the Maine Real Estate Information Service (MREIS). The median sales price statewide hit $181,000 – up by 6.78%. The median sales price (MSP) indicates that half of homes were sold for more and half for less.

Nationally, the pace of sales of single family homes rose by 4% with the MSP countrywide up by 6.3 in December. The National Association of Realtors today reported a regional sales increase in the Northeast of 3.1% and a 3.2% rise in the MSP which stood at $246,600.
